Busier Weekend in May

continuing from the busy week...

Friday night: Dinner with butter prawns and sze chuan lamb at Sarawak Club

Saturday: Time to be a tourist again and visit the Sarawak Cultural Village

parents seem to enjoy being reconnected back to the roots of Sarawak

yes, i am a supporter of visiting your local tourist destination to promote your own hometown and boost the local economy. guys, go book a holiday away in your own home country!

went for white lady and noodles (crispy meehoon wasn't what i expected) for late lunch at the Golf and Country Club on the way home

diner at the Living Room, next to Havana and Bla Bla Bla, has a nice ambience (as all the cafes in that area).. visited the longhouse in the day, time to have dinner in a longhouse as well at night (but cannot compare to the real experience during community service, of course!) was in time to catch the latest Pirates movie as well, at old-school Lotus at Star Cineplex. makes me realized how old this place was since the birth of the Spring's MBO.

Sunday: breakfast time.. not only with Kuching's kolo mee but Foochow's dian bian hu (pieces of cooked flour in soup), chicken mee sua, chao wi tao (pork cooked in herbs), chao ho ngan (fried fatter rice noodles) and kom piang (my favourite mince pork mini burgers)..

visit the Sarawak Museum

lunch at Raja Ayam Penyet, behind Coffee O Corner

the ayam penyet here is really famous and get u asking for more but yet to find out which place has the best ayam penyet (besides Coffee O Corner, Rumah Hijau, Chilli Peppers, Gersik etc).. and i didn't realize its a Sarawak dish! really??? had the bananan cheese as well, very sinful, and the raja milo here is very Milo-y thanks to the powder!

keep-it-simple dinner at Stove Kitchen, Jalan Song

time to have a relaxing do-nothing week this week, before the hectic Gawai week next week, only cause i am going oncall tag 24/7 during the busiest week of the year.. (yes, means work round the clock during the public holiday) *GRUMBLES*

Thursday I: Had a farewell party for 3 of us who were leaving the tanah puteh clinic.. we thought of having a small party to say goodbye but little did we know they turned into a full-blown 50-attendees + invited guests event! imagine the bill we had to help foot.. (nevermind la, treat ppl makan, don't think so much!)

Thursday II: a dear colleague was going to tie the knot soon so we had a girl's night out aka. hen's night, had some kebab at Hubbaba's, at Arabic cafe at Wayang Road, opposite Star Cineplex

the girls' gathering

Thursday III: then its a night of Karaoke at K11 Box, rm28 for 8pm-2am and the screen is big and in the wall! nice!

Friday I: my clinic had a lawatan to a school in Kota Samarahan

visited the health clinic too.. seems like an eating day when at every place we visited, they serve us food regardless of what hour of the day! *burp*

busy week, isn't it? honestly, my weekend was even busier.. but that would be another day's story..

To be Left Out

maybe there's a reason why things happened the way they did

perhaps its best to pretend not to find out things which you weren't meant to know

stop trying to fit in to places you don't belong, with people who don't want you in their midst

it's hard enough trying to make your way in, only to find out you weren't welcomed in the first place, causing anguish in everyone else around you

i am sure there's another day, another time, another place, where true friends and loved ones would be more than happy to see you and appreciate your presence by their side

when that happens, maybe its time to turn the table, and welcome the lonely one at the corner, who's being left out and uninvited

cause you shouldn't treat others the way you don't want to be treated, isn't it?

Lunching away

Just a random post about where i've been munching away during lunch or after work, i am sure most of you guys explored a lot of places like these during your lunch hour as well.

having ayam penyet at Chilli Peppers at Rubber Road, yet to try the ayam penyet at Raja Ayam Penyet and Kopi O Corner

banana leaf meal at LL Banana Leaf, a South Indian cafe at Rubber Road as well (next to After 4), really big portions and the rice is bottomless, my friends seemed to enjoy the mango lassi

J&J Cafeteria opposite the Stutong Market with lots of choices

if you want to have a drink with a different experience, try Millions at Padungan.. you can have a fish spa while having your drink!

not far from the clubbing centre of Kuching (Grappa, Soho, KilKenny's is Planet Sambal, really cute and pink inside! lots of different types of food too)

and not too far away is Tom's, a rather expensive western place which is famous for its cakes

it's my first time here and i must admit the cake i tried was not bad, didn't try the main dishes though (not enough money!)

once a while its ok to go British, no? time to dig into Fish & Chips~

lunch time over, time to catch a wink before 2pm.. *yawn*

Mother's Day Weekend

how did i spend my weekend last week?

of coz pampering my beloved mommie..

dropped by i Cafe at Rubber Road, a chinese but halal corner kopitiam with flowers and a Mother's Day Card for breakfast with my mommie. i didn't particularly wanted to try this place, although apparently its pretty popular especially during lunch time

my gift to my mommie? 5+hours at the Spa for sheer pampering with facial, massage (although i don't think she agrees totally as you know, beauty Is be painful with eyebrow plucking etc etc etc..) at Rubber Road.. lovely place, will definitely be back!~

since we are already along that road, we had lunch at
Rumah Hijau (as previously promoted), a treat for my mommie and my aunt, also a mum~

brought my mommie (window) shopping at Hills Shopping Mall/Pullman, only to watch a wrestling match in the middle of the mall..

actually this part of the weekend wasn't planned by me, but going to Open Day Sales at Perkata was fun all the same! i miss food fairs and open days and being back in secondary school doing all these charity, donations etc.. those were the days! now i am the one purchasing and donating...

Sunday breakfast with mommie (and daddy) at Good Taste Cafe, Sekama. this place has something for (nearly) everyone

after church service (with a lovely sharing about Mums and a little gift for all mommies) mommie was treated again to a Dim Sum buffet at the Banquet for RM20.. there were many choices but if u are hungry, its worth the money then.

some of the dimsum we had

and others not-so-dim sum food..

family photo at Banquet

and as if a buffet lunch finishing at 3pm wasn't enough, we went on to have buffet dinner at The Grand Continental Hotel for the final meal treat for my mommie (i think by now she doesn't find it so much of a treat anymore)

Mother's Day buffet at the hotel

eat eat eat again..

another family picture with my mommie and her complimentary flower

our family Really Really can push it to the limits...

a black forest Secret Recipe cake was waiting at home and we celebrated both Mother's Day and my Dad's birthday! mommie and daddy cuts the cake.. *clap clap clap*

i was starting to enjoy the time spent with my mommie celebrating Mother's Day with pampering, shopping, eating eating eating and was thinking that perhaps we should do this more often and spend more time with my mommie as Mommie's day should be everyday, but i think she was starting to have more than enough of me..

well, Happy Mommie's Day all the same..
..i love u mommie~

Big Boss Farewell

Friday night was a Farewell dinner to my retiring dental big boss of Sarawak

the stage of the function at Sarawak Plaza

some of the food we had

pictures with some colleagues

colleagues meeting up and chat chat, several speeches, dances, present-giving, cutting cake and endless karaoke.. all i can say is 'so this is how a Work dinner event looks like..'

looking at his long good track record since he started service decades ago, getting awards etc and worked in just about every moderate town in Sarawak: mukah, sri aman, kapit, bintulu, miri etc.. and now finally kuching.. and finally retiring happy, i suddenly wonder how my next 30+ years of service would be like.. only God knows!
