My mini Zoo

Thurs night is another dinner+gathering thing with 9 of us having fish buffet thx to eric (curry fish, steam cod fish, mackerel & terung and i helped cooked the salmon).. after makan2 i offered my ferrero rocher and butler's chocs .. (now duno regret or not.. craving chocs..)

the guys went on and on and on talking and playing coin games til like 12.30am..? (dinner was at 7pm).. and i got so bored that i took scrapes of ferrero rocher wrappers and play with them.. twisting and tearing them up..

and i came up with.. a mini zoo..

do u know what animals are these? i got angry when the rest couldnt guess some of them but when they did they went 'OOoo ya ya looks like it..'

nope.. not gonna write a 4000worded post on What Love Is.. L.o.v.e is just the name of this sweet Valentine's card that i received in the post today.. 2 weeks later.. hmm

this card received 2nd place in the Big-size category.. (what do u mean 2nd place, u ask? how many cards did u get??? Haha.. where can tell..)

sweet isn't it? quite big also, few inches taller than my 14' laptop..

at the moment i thought that there's no love anymore, dreams crushed and hopes gone.. a sweet card appears and remind me again.. and again.. and again.. that there are ppl who STILL care..

i miss karaoke

last Tues night all us dentists and medics had the Wed off.. so we decided to spend the night out.. KaRaOke-ing/QM Idoling.. we already practised in Menaka's room the Fri nite b4 and realised we all had talent..

K-box.. the venue at Leicester Sq where we staged our QM idol..

trust me, i wasnt hogging the Microphone 95% of the time.. maybe 85%? haha..

off to Haagen Daaz for superb desserts.. we shared the so-yummy choc fondue... and the rest had their hot chocs etc..
really luxurious dy, always looking for desserts and hangout place..

all i can say is i missssss karaoke-ing!!

why?

i guess during the jiwang2 songs (slow romantic) it lets u sing out how u feel (and if the person is there, even more meaningful to sing to/with the person) ..

and for crazy songs like Umbrella, it lets every1 let their hair down (if they have any hair) and jump and sing together like we are all one big family.. under the same umbrella..

a Duck, a Hare, a Tortoise and the LSE MSS Nite 2008

Friday night i slept pretty late.. luckily managed to wake up to go to Four Seasons at Chinatown for the ever so famous Roast Duck Rice for lunch..

Meant to be just a simple meal but then R treated me for the duck + char siew rice.. Thxxxx so muc R!! for the lucky tulip and now the duck rice!! :)))

the atmosphere at Chinatown still looking very Chinese New Year-ly.. the CNY pastries and cakes were sooooooo irresistable!!! i ended up buying 20 egg tarts..

After chinatown grocery shopping.. i went back home to rest abit. E and i decided to try and make salted chicken eggs.. they are now still soaking in 200g/1L water= 20 gdm-1 sodium hydroxide concentration.. hopefully in 1-2 months can harvest good salted eggs.

Anyway i met up with my good old IC fren XY for dinner at Hare & Tortoise and she brought her fren and her fren brought a fren.. so it ended up as an all-girls dinner night out.. good way to meet new gal frens..

(the restaurant is Hare & Tortoise.. i hope u guys werent thinking i was having duck rice, hare rice and tortoise rice..)

After that we were all off to London School of Economics, LSE's MSS Nite 2008 (Malaysian-Singaporean Society) .. and here comes my 2nd treat..

I am Not Racist!!!

This morning, our group divided into 2, and my half had to shadow the dentists at the Paediatrics Emergency Ward first then we swap at nearly 11am to Orthodontics.

When we swapped, 4 of us sat down round the table and looked at several radiographs of the same child patient who is going to have Orthodontics treatment.

There were a few types of dental radiographs..

Panoramic, overview of all the teeth.
Those of you who had orthodontic treatment surely had this one taken. I kno i did.

Occlusal, view of the upper teeth.

Can see how the teeth are protruding in out left right.. etc..

Finally, Chepalometric, the side view.
Here you can see how far out the teeth protrudes etc..

Anyway, we all were quiet analyzing the radiographs, basically what the diagnosis is and the treatment plan.

I looked at the Chepalometric radiograph and noticed the soft tissues, that is the Outline of the nose, lips & chin of the patient's face. And then i broke the ice.

"Looking at the child's face .. her thick lips and nose.. i think she is Black."

It was meant to be a Totally neutral comment, said matter-of-factly. Just an opinion anyway.

There was a 3-second silence, and then my other groupmates roared with laughter!!!

Another groupmate looked at the patient's name and sort of agreed she Might be black. The rest laughed louder.

The tutor came and we discussed the condition of the child and the ortho treatment that would be carried out. Then she took the radiographs back to her dental chair, where the patient WAS LYING down like 4 Meters away!!!

And yes, i was right, she IS black!!

Once the whole group met up for a final discussion, my groupmates started telling the rest how funny i was.

"There we were, analyzing the radiographs.. then the 1st thing this girl here said was 'Look at the lips and nose, i think she is black..' I mean like, she didnt say about the what type of occlusion, class I II or III or what teeth she had or what needs extractions or what other pathologies or etc (Basically, intellectual stuff) .. but just said.. She is black.."

The rest of the group laughed, and mr. botak E said 'Racist!' which is clearly not true.

Funny how i said it with no intentions of racism, sarcasm or humour yet everyone interpretes it differently. Maybe it's just the way us Malaysians say things that locals find funny.

In the end, no1 credited me for guessing the patient's race just based on the outline of her nose and lips!

*grunts*

Farewell and Smile

this post came late coz i have been going out everynight that i cant blog fast enough to cope with all my fattening night outs...

basically its my dearie fren, Ayu lady's bf that would be leaving back to msia soon (back then, he left yesterday) and Last Friday we had a farewell at Satay House, a Malaysian restaurant (yes! the yummilicious ABC that T belanjaed me & officiated the end of my yo-yo diet on 2 Feb and caused me to gain 3kgs to date)

nasi lemak, nasi goreng kampung, lontong, mee bandung, some sour ikan and kueh tiaw.. its all soooooo yummyyyyyy

it was also Ayu lady's little bro, Zorro's 20th bday!! (powerful family)

lately we were living a luxurious life.. coz everynite after dinner we wud go somewhere for dessert (so far cakes at Pizza Express, pretty ice cream at Ciao, Choc fondue at Haagen Daaz.. and now Tinseltown).. this is the famous Tinseltown that celebs visit coz it has yummy milkshakes and nachos and is open 24/7..

it seemed lik a happy day for everyone, but Ayu lady and Spork Man might be upset to part ways for a while.. i wish them best of luck together and cherish each others always, regardless of whether the person u love is just next door or milesssssssssss away..

i've been through distants myself, it isnt fun and all.. but it can still have a happy ending.. :)

Yes, i received a dozen Red Roses.. and a humongous Valentine card.. and a few little valentine pressies & wishes .. and i really really reallyyyyy appreciated them all... Thanx again..

Being stuck in state of confusion.. Valentine's Night was.. an uncertainty.. should I go out on a new date? Or someone i used to be with? Or just do what single ppl do: n.o.t.h.i.n.g.

What's Valentine's.. if you don't spend it with ppl u care?

Eric made a fantastic solution.. you see, eric rama eliza zul and i are cooking together now.. the policy is we take turns meaning 1 person cook + wash in 1 of the 5 weekdays and it rotates.. Best also, cook 1 time, Eat another 4 times.. weekends are off days..

Anyway, back to eric, it was His turn to cook for Vtine's nite.. so he decided to take us all out for a treat .. yes.. all 5 of us.. Its like a singles-group (except a scammer named zul who is wearing the red T-shirt his gf sent to him ) Valentine's Night out..

So Who's my Valentine date(s)? these 4 ppl.. (no hard feelings, shak!) Who says Valentine's is for couples? As long as it's spent with friends, its still a perfect Valentine for me...

QM Singapore Society CNY Lunch Buffet

On last Sun afternoon QM Singsoc organised a CNY Lunch Buffet at Bugis St restaurant.. its a really nice place next to a hotel.. and for £2 for existing members, £5 for new members (the membership itself is £5!!) and £7 for non-members, its a really good deal!!

then its off to MSD (Malaysian Student Department) open house by MSD-MCA.. theres not much food left when we were there.. but got snacking on the prawn crackers, peanuts and oranges..

Unfortunately we didnt see many familliar faces at MSD (if any!) .. makes us all wonder.. are we getting old??? baru 3rd year wor.. wheres our batch?? where are u Guys?!?

a Late Valentine Gift.. or a Valentine Gift Too Late?

i was already in slumberland.. dreaming of the great weekend i just had..

little did i know the weekend did not fully end there.. coz the Valentine postman was running late this time around, and delivered a gigantic Handmade Valentine's card at 1.30am...

i was really shocked.. so big.. somemore it looks so cuteeeeeeeeeee... must have taken up alot of one's effort & time..

i opened it.. it's really creatively-made.. and the unlike other Valentine's card.. this one filled me with mixed feelings..

Our Trafalgar Square Freeze 2008 Videos

As i've said earlier, a group of us went to the Trafalgar Square Freeze (If U dunno whats that, please refer to previous post)

Basically, every1 would be doing their 'normal' things (but mostly we were just preparing and anticipating) and at 3.30pm, Time Freezes where everyone just stops for 5 minutes while doing whatever we were doing.. the whole scene looks really cool.

menaka aaron zul peikee & i were just a bunch of friends reading the map.. eric bended over to pick up a cigarette box and dina & her sis were taking pics..

Welcome to the 'Great Trafalgar Freeze'.

We are hoping to attract 1000 like-minded people to take part in a Improv Global mission to freeze Trafalgar Sq. for five minutes.

This mission has been inspired by http://www.improveverywhere.com , a group that successfully froze Grand Central Station for five minutes.
The effect of 200 people caught still, like a snap-shot confuses and surprises the general public. Once the five minutes have passed the members continue on with their acions as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. The scene will be filmed by a number of crews.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THE FREEZE

The numbers have grown considerably from the original handful this is excellent but it means there have been a few alterations in the plans.

Logistics

1. The meeting at CHARING CROSS IS CANCELLED. This is for obvious reasons.

2. Head to Trafalgar Sq as early as you can.

3. Do synchronise your watch, mobile or alarm clock to the talking clock (dial 123) and set it exactly.

4. Find a position in Trafalgar Sq, allow there to be space for pedestrians to walk through. The filming will be taking place all over Trafalgar Square but spread out from the centre between the steps to Nelson’s column, and around the two fountains. If there are huge numbers of people spread up the stairs around the front entrance to the National Gallery.

5. The Freeze will begin exactly to the second at 3.30pm. It will finish at 3.35pm.

6. There will be an audible signal for the start and the end.

There will also be a number of people with umbrellas in the corners of Trafalgar Square and around the fountains. At 3.30pm the umbrellas will simultaneously go up. At 3.35 the umbrellas will simultaneously go down.

Art Direction –

It is important that you are caught frozen in time.

You can bring props – a half eaten hamburger, bottle of champagne, a smoking cigarette, a bicycle, skateboard, a mankini...etc.

Try to be caught in a motion pose – mid-walk, mid laughter, mid stretch or whatever you fancy. This will really help the public realize that everyone is frozen.

And when the Freeze is over please continue on as if NOTHING out of the ordinary has happened.

IF IT RAINS THE FREEZE IS STILL ON. It will look amazing even with 50 people being soaked in the rain. …O and Enjoy….

Shortest Valentine's Day Date

Valentine's day.. didnt start so well..

I had a date in the morning. Yes, in the morning. And i was late for my Valentine's date. Left my room 10 mins b4 the meeting at Mile End.

I was of course, anxious. This meeting would decide if there would be further dates in the future, or none at all. Late + anxiety + uncertainty of the future. And i was huffing & puffing, in a mess.

I sat there. Quiet. And he broke the ice with a bright smile. Not bad looking..

We talked abit.

Then i said i need to know the answer.. Pretty worried too..

if its green, would not be Good news coz it shouldnt happen at the 1st place.. it's wrong, bad, evil!! but at least u have something to work for, to strive towards.. a goal perhaps..

if it red .. maybe u wud feel fortunate.. but then u are left in a daze.. a confusion once again.. why did it happen at the 1st place?

Then he said the 3 words..

And filled me up with Mixed feelings..

It is negative..

What? He doesnt Love Me? What are you talking about???

It is the result of my Urea breathe Test.. and i tested negative..

I do not have Helicobacter pylori.. nope, no bacteria inhibiting my gastrointestinal tract..

Honestly i was like 95% sure i do have that coz it would explain everything.. But shouldnt I be happy that i am bacteria-free? But THEN.. why the endless gastritis and sharp stomach pains???

The young white doctor smiled at me again. I was.. clueless..

"Er.. where do i go from here?"

"Continue your medication for 1-2months and we'll see from there."

With that, my date ended.. lasting only 3 minutes. Shortest Valentine's Date Ever!!!

I left the Health Center confused.. oh well, shouldnt i be happy i am not as chronic as i thought? I decided that since i can choose to be happy or disappointed, i rather be happy.

With a happy tune in my head, i started the day with a smile, and managed to bring Valentine spirit to others around me.. but that would be another blog post...

Red Red Everywhere...

Our QM Malaysian Society organised a Chinese New Year Dinner on 13 Feb at Wong Kei.. the theme was red.. so everywhere u see is red red red..

There were around 40 ppl.. 6 tables with 3 tables of set A (tak halal.. chic beef babi etc.. 3 pounds only) and set B (seafood.. 6 pounds..) I was advised to take set B..

starters squid fish tauhu prawns noodle vege mussels.. all for 6 pounds.. we ate till we were really.. really stuffed.. so much for diet..
