i was lepaking in noreen's room in liverpool with fellow londoners menaka and yinhui when i decided to call pei lian in manchester to warn her to bring belt for the oversized ski pants i bought for her.. then i loud speakerkan the hp for her to chat with everyone..

pei2 from edin called menaka soon after.. and somehow we had this stupid idea to let the hps talk..

peilian: wei? pei?
pei2: tua pui? eh where r u?
peilian: i m in manchester, not in liverpool with the rest
pei2: wei.. u guys taruh the 2 hps together isit..

yes.. we have nothing bttr to do.. and the 4 of us is only 30% of our 13 travellers troop, the most i travelled with so far..

it is going to be a long, long trip...

Ice Cream at Harrods

If there's one place in London i just cannot resist.. it must be Harrods.. not to say i m a big spender, but everything there is so so sooooo pretty and nicely decorated i feel lik taking pic of everything..

my Fav spot has got to be the ice cream bar... so Colourful!!!!! and its ICE CREAM!!!

look at that.. wah just like venice..

menu also ganas.. mind u, these costs 8-25pounds..(usually those more than 15 has some liquor like a shot of baileys or sth..)

my yummy ice cream experience.. simply unforgetable..

Oh ya.. now nearly 8pm, i have to leave for Euston to my train to liverpool where i wud b MIA for 10days till 31st Dec..

Covent Garden Christmas Market

On Thursday night i was at Covent Garden and i bumped into a Food Market! What Luck! it was the 12 days of Christmas Food Market.. was rather similar to the market in summer that i blogged about.. the food stalls are actually the same i think..

This time it was all Christmasy though (Looks like i could never get enough of Xmas!!) Love the stalls!!

The deco in the building itself was really really pretty.. i hav to admit its not the same capturing it in picture.. u jux gotta be there to see the real thing..

After that it was off to the theater.. the Lord of the Rings.. it was GreaTTT.. i already love the movie (and knowing the story line ahead helps!) and seeing them putting up all the cool costumes and stage changes so well.. esp Smeagol aka gollum.. hehe.. and the part where Gandolf the Grey fights that monster before he becomes Gandalf the White.. and the 'audience participation' part.. hehe..

Hobbits dancing before the show starts.. managed to snap this shot before got told off 'NO PHOTOGRAPHY please!!!'.. its just a Pre-theater thing..

me at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane during interval.. missed out on the ice cream but make up for it later with Ben & Jerry's 2 for 5 pounds offer.. Diet? what Diet?? I's Christmas!!! Diet is on holiday!!

Great night :)))

Compaq Presario V2000 reborn

My laptop has been very very tenat for the past few months..

I searched my C drive.. only left 3-4Gb of space.. then empty a few Gb into D drive also like kura-kura.. and then I search my C drive.. got lik 20G of stuff occupied.. but when I add the total of stuff that I memang have.. only 10G wor.. I couldn’t understand.. eric and I keep Right-Click -> Properties and summed up the total space of stuff I have.. memang only 10G (I don have movies etc one, jux pics..) .. another 10G of space.. UNKNOWN.. dunno y my space taken up..

Run my antivirus.. got virus.. but kenot heal.. also duno wad to do..

Eric come use my comp.. he say can die one.. somemore he just got a 22’ desktop, macam org baru makan crab n lobster then come my room eat roti putih Tesco basics..

Zul come find the Pokemon walk through also say ‘Wei reformat ur computer la..’ by the time I help him find the answer online he also solve it by his own..

Let me tell u how slow it is.. I open the window.. nth happens.. can go clean my room while waiting for it to load.. then for my Msn.. I open a chat window.. type type type nothing comes up.. so I just backspace if I duno I type correct or not.. and if I think I did then jux Enter.. while berus gigi the msg should b able to go through..

It can suddenly just Hang.. as it the whole screen turns green.. or red.. or black.. programs r running at the back but I cant c anything.. Crtl-Alt-Del means nth anymore.. I restart once.. stil lag.. restart again.. and again.. and it makes a funny ti-ti-ti sound like a bom wana letup..

I felt really pasrah.. duno where is the CD to reformat.. at home mummy also kenot find.. ask ask around.. finally found foo’s cd.. but tien say bttr use own cd.. kepasrahan.. need to buy ka..

Then the IT/comp pro appeared.. his name is ming, bttr known as eric’s fren coz he is the current resident of F24.. I told him my problem.. he also tak paham hw come this computer can b so extreme slow.. but he say don hav the original cd for my laptop so tak selamat reformat..

But one night.. he kenot take it anymore.. the feeling like something stuck in ur teeth and u keep wana take it out but kenot take out.. he terus bring my laptop into A&E F24 and settle it for the night..

I wake up kejut my laptop missing.. then I go find got the msg on the laptop ‘Everything settled’ .. so happy, I bring my baby home and pasang..

Suddenly so shocked.. computer can on this fast one meh? How come din hang? How come I change from 1 window to another in 0.5 secs and not 10secs? Wah wah wah..

He said the extremeness of my laptop is “all ur files, I took 1.5hours to transfer in my harddisk .. had to play dota while waiting.. But when wana transfer all back in, I on the dota game also siap liao.. 6 minutes nia.. that shows how slow it used to be.. extreme..’

90/6=15 times slower..

I also shocked.. last time I blog take 2-3hours.. until ppl ask me dota or do things I say ‘stil blogging’.. ppl think I tulis karangan contoh SPM or sth.. now I blog 30mins also settle.. duno berapa % of my time last time jux spent wasting on my lagging laptop..

But now.. it is fast once again.. Soooooooooo happpy I also kenot describe..

Thx so muc to ming.. due to financial crisis, I shall request encik eric koay to belanja u mamak once u reach penang..

Po Pet Po Pet

i was looking at my Carphone Warehouse phonebill for Nov.. and the duration for phonecalls.. quite shocking also.. i made 19hrs 33 mins of Local calls (that includes Noodle Chat international calls) and 8hrs 44mins of UK hp calls..

That is a total of 28hours 18mins talk!! in the 30 days of November.. averaging 50+mins a day?!?!?! 500+ calls somemore.. i got dial so many times meh...

Do i talk Sooooo much?

*flashback* helen gayut on hp b4/during/after exams coz of stress.. helen go out cerita all kind of nonsence.. helen always tells stories.. if cannot talk also end up blog it anyway.. WAH helen really talks all the time!!!

arghh.. malunyer jadi so talkative.. maybe shud be more quiet.. polite.. reserved..

but my carphone warehouse 02 contract got so many free minutes anyway...

i talked off peak for 1174 mins also still got 28 825 mins left.. 30 000 off peak mins and 600 peak mins.. talk 24/7 also kenot finish..

unfortunately the Noodle Chat for Carphone Warehouse (02 in my case) for making these off-peak international calls is recently suspended.. based on a forum at http://forum.niftylist.co.uk/index.php?topic=3199.msg15190.. 02 has suspended access numbers 07xxx.. yikes.. cannot make my 07822 calls anymore.. arghh but not bad la, i already abuse it to the max in Oct and Nov..
WAIT WAIT.. got new access number for noodle chat.. 0208 number.. if u wana know pls contact me.. every1 shares the same number though.. hopefuly 02 dont google up my blog..

now back to traditional phonecards.. eurocity £3 for a £5 card is what i recommend, easily available at whitechapel market.. but to finish 30 000 mins a month.. phonecards also need money la..

thats y blogging is better.. its FREE!!!

10 Things to Do this Christmas, My Way!!

While i was figuring out what to do during the hols (well Now actually since 10 days is going to be spent Skiing..) i was browsing thru a website called allinlondon.co.uk and they were recommending what to do this Christmas..

1) Go Ice Skating at Somerset House(21st Nov – 27th Jan)

London's original, beautiful open-air ice rink returns to Somerset House right in the heart of central London.

helen: been there done that last year.. canary wharf also have..so DONE.. going skiing instead this year..

Three of the most famous shopping streets in the UK will be traffic-free for the first time to help Christmas shoppers.

helen: impossible.. window shopping only..

3) See the Trafalgar Square Lights(6th Dec – 31st Dec)

The annual Trafalgar Square Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes place on Thursday 6th December in which a tree given by the people of Norway.
helen: ok Next Stop.

4) Leicester Square Christmas Fun Fair(6th Dec – 6th Jan)

Act like a big kid and go and play on the carousel and other great rides that will be a permanent feature in Leicester Square this Christmas.

helen: DONE

Splashing out on a great meal in London doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Take a look at our great dining special offers in All in London’s Restaurant Section.

helen: maybe not a Fancy Meal but it was good...so DONE

6) Bankside Frost Fair(14th Dec – 16th Dec)A winter festival that celebrates the history of the area at a time when Londoners took to the ice as the River Thames froze hundreds of years ago
helen: DONE

7) Tower Bridge European Christmas Market(29th Nov – 22nd Dec)

Festive market stalls with traditional Christmas food and drinks including gingerbread, chestnuts and mulled wine as well as arts, crafts and much more.

helen: Ok, Next stop.

Help four ordinary lads wipe the smile off Simon Cowell’s face this Christmas by getting them into the top 10 in the charts.

helen: not interested

9) Go to a Film Premiere(throughout the month)

There are some great film premieres planned for December including the hotly anticipated St Trinians movie, so why not go and see the stars on the red carpets. More dates will be announced as the month goes on.
helen: no money

10) Attend a Christmas Carol Concert(through the month, St Paul’s: 24th Dec)

Why not get in the Christmas spirit by attending a traditional carol concert, such as the one which takes place at St Paul’s Cathedral on Christmas Eve?

helen: i m not in this year but done this 2 years back, so DONE

Ok.. those were very interesting things to do (Done 5, going to do 2 more.. ok la) ..However, i had some ideas of my own that i scribbled down somewhere deep in my shallow mind.. (that seems to contradict..)

10 (or 11?) Things To do for Christmas, Helen's Way

1) Go somewhere Christmasy

be it Frost Fair, Xmas Market, Trafalgar Sq or any Mall that has a big tree and tons of lights and a fat Santa.. its a reminder that 'Oh! its Christmas!! I was wondering that this long break is for..'

2) Be generous

Yap.. got extra chocs or baking some cookies or snacks, just offer someone.. might mean nothing to you, but means something to someone else.. got loose change or extra clothes? donate to charity/Oxfam/homeless etc even better.. Many ppl don realise they r actually more blessed than they think they are (although Jpa tends to make us forget this) ...
however make sure u have enough for you have enough to keep warm.. last autumn i donated 2 bags of clothes to Oxfam with the great idea to go Xmas shopping then money drought strikes.. now i go Grrrrr and Brrrrrr...

no money to give? go the extra mile.. dare to do more.. giv the gift of life.. donate Blood.. i made an appointment for my 3rd donation on 24th Dec but wouldnt be in.. going to reschedule it soon.. i even signed up as a bone marrow donor..

the fact that they keep asking me to come for another blood donation appointment tells me that my blood was put to good use ( O+ve, man.. super generous) .. and i recently found out a friend who is anaemic and if her blood counts goes any lower she might need a blood transfusion.. and i said to her 'its for ppl like U that i go donate blood..'

3) Spend time with Family & Friends

if u r at home, make a point to have a good meal with them or have a good chat.. or u r Not at home, find your closest buddies if it means u have to travel and spend time with them.. coz chances are for the rest of the year u might be busy with your own uni stuff once again..

4) Attend a Christmas Carol

Go to church, or be in the city where a whole choir sings out loud..

i was at piccadilly circus going to lillywhites when i bumped into this choir singing away at the tube.. they sound lovely and i grabbed my loose coppers and silvers to donate and the conductor whispered 'thank you'.. just makes u feel good doesnt it?

5) Volunteer (or help someone out)
this is not a easy task.. finally a time of the year to rest but u go spend it on other ppl and do things that doesnt benefit you?? trust me, it IS rewarding.. last xmas i spent 3 days helping out the homeless.. (9pm-9am shifts.. 12 hours.. pure madness also..)

I get to meet loads of volunteers.. fireman, news broadcaster (for Sky Sports), theater make-up artist, the sorts that you would not usually bump into on a normal day and listen to their experiences.. even the Homeless themselves!!
one homeless man actualy said he was working in Indonesia as a businessman and he knows Malaysia and Nasi Lemak and Selamat Pagi (the same first few words) then he goes on about politics and corruption etc.. and there he is.. a homeless soul in London..
makes u wonder how ppl's life can change for the better.. or the worst..
just makes me feel more fortunate everytime..

6) Indulge in something u Crave..

Oh yeah.. u really gotta do this.. be it Burgers or Fries or Choc or ICE CREAMMMM!!! indulge without any guilt (thats kinda hard for me actually)

this is a choc fondue i had at Haagen Daaz, Leicester Sq.. it is Heavenly.. ice creams on the right, fruits at 11 o clock, muffins and cakes on the left with nutts to cover it all at the bottom..

can die one..

7) Get out of ur room, go do Something Fun with friends!!
this is the most popular option.. coz ppl always Travel at this time of the year with their friends.. its like a tradisional among international students as locals just spend time with family, what we would do if we were back in our home country as well..
but ya.. go Ski..(like myself, plan to go Once and thats it..) or ice skate or wherever.. jux go out, get dirty and have hell loads of fun!!
8) Have a tradisional Christmas meal

this depends whether u have the crowd to do it with, maybe with a family or potluck with some friends.. but come on, get into the spirit.. have Mulled wine.. stuff yourself with turkeys and trimmings and bread stuffings..

or go out for a meal.. might cost abit but Hey! once a year.. get into the spirit.. u can go eat whatever u want for the rest of the 364 dinners but for once.. go Christmas!

so far i had turkeys every year for Christmas and i m not meaning to break that tradition anytime soon..

9) Splash out on yourself

Buy something for yourself as a treat.. meaning to buy that coat or psp or a massage.. a trip that u cant afford of have been saving for... anything.. go ahead.. i know u want it.. once a year mar...

i m just Waittttting for jpa to bank in.. then i would accomplish this one.. meanwhile, survey survey online first la.. haha

10) Meet new people, find love, or spice up ur current love..

Go on, head on to some friends party, don be so anti-social.. say Hi Hi and exchange a few words.. and IF u r lucky u might find someone that would interest you (and hopefully, so is he/she..) have some fun, go out for a date.. play alittle (a LITTLE) .. don't be too naughty this christmas..

or already have that special someone? buy him/her a present, cook a meal..replay Valentine's.. won't it be sweet??

waiting for me to share my experience? haha.. come on, i wouldnt give advice if i havent tested it out myself.. but anyway.. do something special for that special someone..

11) Spread the Joy

Now , the most important step.. since u r getting all pyched up for Christmas, y not spread the joy? What's the use of having all the fun yourself when ur friends are still muddled with work and drowning in loneliness..

Call friends over for dinner, send out paper or e-cards, buy pressies, call someone and wish them a Merry Christmas.. u would be surprised when was the last time someone wished them..

Oh Come on, get into the mood..dont sit at home n sulk trying to be so pathetic and lonely.. u don have to be a Christian (u can leav the singing & celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ to us, i wont force ppl to church or anyth) , just be merry and jolly like old fat Santa (and get fat after xmas) and have some fun!
Oh ya, before i forget, Have a Merry Christmas everyone!~~

Body Sushi, interesting ; Eating a Body, Gross

People r really getting creative nowadays.. if they cant change the dish, they change the way of presentation.. introducing Nyotaimori (Japanese: 女体盛り, "female body presentation") or Body Sushi.. where sushi & sashimi are served off the body of a woman.. often naked.. Kinda like a sexual fetish..

probably the pros is the food is served as close to possible to body Temp.. & of coz.. the pleasure of taking that salmon from someone's boobs?

cons: hygiene.. and immoral?? treating a woman as a plate?? where's the rights? there's male models as well.. 男体盛り, nantaimori But i can imagine its not as popular.. suddenly half way there is a sushi earthquake and some volcano grows out of no where where sushis falling off the mountain.. besides, woman eating off man? yucks.. man eating off man? even more gross..

BBC reports that China bans it, but in US and Germany its getting popularized.. Japanese really are innovative!!!

Anyway that is an interesting piece of news.. BUT somewhere in the hearts of Korea, they wana repeat the stunt.. just this time, they don make the woman the plate.. they make the woman the DISH.. yes.. seriously..

as u can see on the right side, all the last 5 pics.. they have all successfully made their dish and gather around to feast.. instead of the tradisional taking the big ladle and serve soup around the table, they cut into the 'organs'..
ewwwwww... seriously.. gross.. its amazing what people can do nowadays..

and the 8000 & 8888 winners are...

Congrats to Alvin for 8000... present would b a Swak laksa if u come london.. hehe.. ok la more decent, londons famous 4 season duck rice.. my swak laksa tak boleh pakai on a Kuchingite..
and also eric for stealing all my prosperity.. 8888 Chis, already steal my good number, pandai2 ask for his own prize.. its still valid til 31st Dec, Eric!! come to B4 & claim!

i dunno who dapat 9000.. but nex numbers should be 9999 and 10000.. wow double kill..

a night out before Christmas

Sat night i went out to the Bankside Frost Fair.. it was kinda late so not as packed as last year.. things r pretty much the same, stalls selling nice stuff, food stalls, nice decos here and there... Leichester Sq is pretty happening as well as there's a funfair going on, but i'm just to scared to go for the rides..

Christmas time is near

would you believe it.. christmas is near.. Only 10 days away.. yet why arent we getting all excited with pressies and cards and all.. i guess cause most of us here at Barts & the London, QM is still bogged down with classes and all coz hols only start on 22nd Dec.. darn..

as a little girl.. christmas was just another holiday where we stuffed ourselves with loads and loads of food just b4 new year.. then anticipate for raya and cny..
on Christmas eve, i would lie right in front of my tv and watch those Christmas Special cartoons.. maybe Beauty & the Beast version ka.. and dad would bring home the lamb leg with stuffings and all.. and fireworks would cover the dark blue sky..

Christmas day is always spent in church, running around with other kids and singing christmas carols (u really gotta love those) .. finding friends, exchanging presents, sending out and receiving tons of xmas cards ( i still keep each and every one of them till now)

and Christmas dinner, without a doubt, has the glazed turkey with bread stuffings and veges and potatoes on the sides.. and the whole family gathers around for a good wholehearted meal..

Boxing day is probably spent attending a friend's xmas party.. or maybe following mum & dad to some xmas dinner by some business friend.. or attending an Open xmas house..

those were the good old days.. where christmas means having a few days off spending time with family and friends and having good food to celebrate the occasion.. lets not forget, Christmas day is after all the birth of Jesus Christ, not just Santa and reindeers and presents and those cheesy love movies..

London would be a great place to spend xmas.. just walk in the main streets of Piccadilly, Oxford or Trafalgar Sq.. xmas lights everywhere.. Xmas trees standing tall, Xmas Songs echoing.. Xmas sales of coz.. and the legendary Boxing day sales..

but Why does everything just died on The Day itself?

simple: no one works on that day.. its just a time to be at home, stuff urself with food and spending time with your loved ones..

might be a little troublesome for us.. but Hey, its just 1/365.25 days anyway.. give those TFL ppl a break..

1st year's xmas.. yinhui, menaka & i toured ireland b4 xmas, then my whole kmb clan came down from Manchester, Notts, Ireland, Edin and merata2 tempat.. see.. we look so happy right.. that is what xmas means to me.. is being with my loved ones.. and if its not my family.. then its my friends..

2nd year's xmas.. quite a replay really.. not everyone came down but we spent time with friends as well.. and whats more, i went for Crisis volunteer for the homeless that xmas for 3 days.. thats 3 x 9pm-9am shifts.. really an experience..

3rd year's xmas.. ski trip.. wow u must think i would be super excited to be wearing those bulky ski boots and running around in sub zero conditions, waiting to fall down again and again.. well its not exactly the case.. what i m really looking forward to is to see all my friends whom i misseddddd so much, once again.. and That is what xmas means to me now.. cant wait..

Sarawak Laksa!~

Due to popular demand, i had to cook up some Swak authentic dish.. kolo mee tak halal la.. so have to come up with Laksa Sarawak.. hehe anyway it was not very successful, fortunately for me, my guests are nvr tried the real thing.. so can la..

me; eric's rep, ming; ashie; zul; fatiha and rama... ming offered to help..stir the kuah.. thx so much for such great help..

the real thing.. missing that green vege as deco, but i don lik that vege anyway..busukk

Laksa Swak Recipe:
  • 1st u throw in chicken (or chicken stock) and prawns in 2L water (now it depends on paste.. coz i got 1 paste 2L : 200g and another, 4L : 250g) .. boil till cook oredi, then remove.
  • throw in ur paste (yap, instant one).. then boil with low heat, add 500ml santan.. boil & stir
  • as for beehoon/bihun.. put in hot water can liao, then put in cold water. 1 pack is more than enough for 6 ppl (i just learnt)
  • tauge also same case boilingwater+coldwater treatment
  • beat 4-5eggs, fry like ommelette then cincang. the chicken also tear into pieces.
  • Put bihun in bowl, throw in tauge, chicken, egg, prawns (try deco nice nice) then pour kuah! served with sambal & lime.
  • call a sarawakian like Helen to come testing since she tried nearly all the best Sarawak Laksas in Kuching (yap, Swak Laksa & Kolo Mee is famous in Kuching, other cities like Sibu has Kampua Mee & Prawn Mee .. different city different..)
